Bali eSIM 2026 — Telkomsel vs XL vs Indosat: Best Network for Ubud, Seminyak & Nusa Penida

Bali is Indonesia's most visited island and one of the world's top digital nomad destinations. Coverage in the main tourist areas is excellent, but Nusa Penida and remote parts of north Bali tell a different story. Here's what you need to know.

Bali's Three Main Networks

Network South Bali Ubud / North Nusa Penida Verdict
Telkomsel ✅ Excellent ✅ Best ✅ Best on island 🏆 Best overall Bali
XL Axiata ✅ Very good ✅ Good ⚠️ Limited Good for south Bali
Indosat ✅ Good ⚠️ Moderate ❌ Poor Kuta/Seminyak only

Our Bali/Indonesia eSIM uses Telkomsel — Indonesia's largest network with the best coverage across all of Bali including the outer islands.

Coverage by Destination

Seminyak, Kuta, Legian (South Bali)

All networks excellent. This is the main tourist hub — 4G speeds 20–80 Mbps on all operators. Instagram Stories, Reels, video calls all work without issues. Ngurah Rai Airport: all networks excellent.

Canggu (Digital Nomad Hub)

All networks good in Canggu town and beach area. Co-working spaces (Dojo, Outpost, Livit) all have excellent WiFi — but Telkomsel 4G as backup is reliable. Echo Beach area: Telkomsel best.

Ubud

Ubud town centre: all networks good. Ubud Monkey Forest: all networks work. Tegallalang Rice Terraces: Telkomsel and XL both good. Campuhan Ridge Walk: Telkomsel maintains signal on the walking trail. Kecak Fire Dance at Uluwatu: all networks work at the clifftop temple.

Nusa Penida — The Critical Difference

Nusa Penida is the island southeast of Bali, accessible by fast boat from Sanur. Home to Kelingking Beach (the T-Rex cliff), Angel's Billabong, and Broken Beach — arguably Bali's most photographed spots.

  • Telkomsel: Signal at main viewpoints including Kelingking Beach overlook. Drops on the steep descent to the beach. Works at Broken Beach and Angel's Billabong.
  • XL: Works in Nusa Penida town. Limited at remote viewpoints.
  • Indosat: Very limited across most of Nusa Penida.

For Instagram from Kelingking — Telkomsel is the only network that works at the cliff edge.

Mount Batur (Active Volcano Sunrise Trek)

Kintamani village: all networks good. Mount Batur summit (1,717m): Telkomsel maintains signal at the summit. Sunrise from Bali's most popular volcano trek: you can post live on Telkomsel.

North Bali — Lovina and Munduk

Lovina Beach (dolphin watching): Telkomsel good. Munduk waterfall area: Telkomsel on main roads. Remote waterfall trails: limited on all networks — download offline maps.

Bali Digital Nomad Note

Bali's co-working scene is world-class and WiFi is generally reliable. However for outdoor workdays — beach clubs, rice terrace cafés, villa pools — Telkomsel provides the most consistent backup connection for video calls when WiFi drops.
