France eSIM 2026 — Orange vs SFR vs Bouygues: Best Network for Tourists in Paris, Provence & Normandy

France is the world's most visited country. In Paris, any network is fine. But France is a big, diverse country — the lavender fields of Provence, the cliffs of Normandy, and the summit of Mont Blanc all have different coverage stories.

France's Three Main Networks

Network Urban Rural Verdict
Orange ✅ Excellent ✅ Best rural France 🏆 Best overall
SFR ✅ Excellent ✅ Good Strong second
Bouygues ✅ Good cities ⚠️ Limited deep rural Cities + main roads

Our France eSIM uses Orange — France's largest network with the widest coverage in rural departments, overseas territories, and mountainous regions.

Coverage by Destination

Paris

All networks outstanding across Paris. Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Notre-Dame, Montmartre: full 5G on all operators. Paris Métro: Orange and SFR both maintain signal on most lines. RER to Charles de Gaulle airport: Orange best throughout the journey.

French Riviera (Nice, Cannes, Monaco)

All three cities: excellent coverage. Côte d'Azur coastline drive: Orange and SFR both excellent. Monaco: French networks work — very small territory fully covered by all three. Villefranche-sur-Mer: all networks good. Eze village (hilltop perch): Orange best.

Provence (Lavender Fields, Gorges du Verdon)

  • Aix-en-Provence and Avignon: all networks excellent.
  • Lavender fields (Valensole Plateau, Sault): Orange covers these rural areas. SFR partial. Bouygues limited.
  • Gorges du Verdon (Grand Canyon of France): Orange on main viewpoints. No network in the gorge bottom — expected.
  • Les Baux-de-Provence: Orange works at this clifftop village.

Normandy D-Day Beaches

Caen and Bayeux: all networks good. D-Day beaches (Omaha, Utah, Gold, Sword): Orange and SFR cover the beach memorials and visitor centres. Pointe du Hoc cliff: Orange good. Mont Saint-Michel: Orange best — the island abbey is remote, Bouygues limited here.

Mont Blanc and French Alps

Chamonix: all networks good in town. Aiguille du Midi cable car (3,842m): Orange maintains 4G signal at the summit — you can post from one of Europe's highest cable car stations. Mer de Glace glacier: Orange works at the glacier viewpoint.

Loire Valley Châteaux

Tours and Amboise: all networks good. Château de Chambord and Château de Chenonceau: Orange and SFR both work at the major châteaux. Rural roads between châteaux: Orange essential — Bouygues drops on many D-roads.

Bordeaux and Wine Country

Bordeaux city: excellent all networks. Saint-Émilion wine village: all networks good. Médoc wine route (Pauillac, Margaux area): Orange best on vineyard roads. Dordogne Valley: Orange only in many riverside villages.
