Coverage by Destination
Rio de Janeiro
All three networks excellent throughout Rio. Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon beachfronts: full 4G/5G. Favela communities (Rocinha, Santa Marta): Claro and Vivo both have coverage. Cable car to Sugarloaf (Pão de Açúcar): Claro signal at summit. Christ the Redeemer (Corcovado): all networks work at the statue — surprisingly good signal given the height.
São Paulo
Brazil's business capital has outstanding coverage. All three networks provide 5G across the city centre, Paulista Avenue, Vila Madalena, Liberdade. Guarulhos Airport: excellent on all networks.
Amazon Rainforest — Manaus and River Lodges
This is the most dramatic coverage situation in Brazil:
- Manaus city: Claro and Vivo both excellent — it's a city of 2+ million people.
- Rio Negro / Amazon River boat tours: Signal exists near river towns and settlements. Drops completely in open jungle sections.
- Remote lodge stays (3+ hours from Manaus by boat): No signal on any network — this is expected and part of the experience.
- Practical tip: Download everything you need before leaving Manaus. WhatsApp messages queue up and send when you re-enter signal range.
Iguazu Falls (Foz do Iguaçu)
The Brazilian side: Claro and Vivo both work at the main walkways and viewing platforms. Foz do Iguaçu city: all networks excellent. The Argentine side requires a separate Argentina SIM or roaming arrangement — your Brazil eSIM won't cover Argentina.
Salvador and Northeast Brazil
Salvador city: all networks good. Chapada Diamantina (spectacular national park inland): Claro works in main towns (Lençóis, Mucugê). Trails and waterfalls: no signal — download maps offline before driving in.
Florianópolis and South Brazil
Florianópolis: excellent on Claro and Vivo. South beaches (Praia da Joaquina, Praia Mole): good coverage. Figueira beach areas with waves: Vivo strongest here.
Pantanal (World's Largest Wetland)
Cuiabá city: all networks good. Transpantaneira highway (the main wildlife-watching route): Claro only — and even Claro drops in sections. Download offline maps for the entire route before Poconé.
