Coverage by Destination
Berlin
All networks excellent. Mitte, Prenzlauer Berg, Kreuzberg, Neukölln: full 4G/5G. Berlin U-Bahn and S-Bahn: Telekom and Vodafone maintain signal on most above-ground sections. Underground stations: increasingly covered with Telekom leading. Tempelhof Field: excellent. Brandenburg Gate area: all networks perfect.
Munich and Bavaria
Munich city: all networks excellent, 5G widely available. Marienplatz, English Garden, Olympiapark: full coverage. Munich U-Bahn: Telekom strongest underground. Day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle: Telekom good at castle and in Füssen town. Vodafone weaker on the approach road.
Black Forest (Schwarzwald)
This is where network gaps become real:
- Freiburg im Breisgau: All networks good in the city.
- Black Forest National Park roads: Telekom maintains signal on main B500 route. Drops on smaller forest roads.
- Titisee and Schluchsee lakes: Telekom good. Vodafone partial. O2 very limited.
- Deep forest hiking trails: No reliable signal on any network — download maps offline.
Rhine Valley (Loreley, Rüdesheim)
Rhine cruise between Rüdesheim and Koblenz: Telekom maintains signal along most of the river. Villages and castles visible from boats: Telekom coverage at major stops. The scenic Loreley viewpoint: Telekom excellent.
Bavarian Alps (Garmisch, Zugspitze)
Garmisch-Partenkirchen: all networks good. Zugspitze (Germany's highest peak, 2,962m) — cable car station at summit: Telekom signal available. Vodafone weaker at altitude. This lets you post from Germany's rooftop.
Hamburg and Northern Germany
Hamburg: all networks excellent. Speicherstadt warehouse district, Reeperbahn, HafenCity: full coverage. North Sea coast and islands (Sylt, Föhr): Telekom best on islands. Ferry crossings: Telekom maintains signal longest.
Autobahn Germany Warning
Germany's famous unlimited-speed highways have mobile dead zones, particularly in rural sections. This is a known issue across all German operators but Telekom has fewest gaps. Plan navigation with offline maps for long autobahn drives.
