Los Angeles Travel Guide 2026 — Hollywood, Beaches & USA eSIM Tips

Los Angeles is a city that requires a car — or a very good apps strategy. Sprawling across 500 square miles, it has world-famous beaches, the entertainment industry's epicentre, world-class museums, and some of the best food in the USA. Here is how to navigate it in 2026.

USA eSIM Coverage in Los Angeles

T-Mobile has the strongest 5G coverage throughout the LA metro area. Verizon and AT&T are also excellent. Our USA eSIM connects to T-Mobile — critical for navigation in a city where you will be driving or ridesharing constantly.

LA by Area — What Is Actually Worth It

Area Worth Your Time? Best For
Hollywood Boulevard ⚠️ Manage expectations Walk of Fame, TCL Chinese Theatre. Touristy and underwhelming up close but worth 1 hour.
Venice Beach + Boardwalk ✅ Yes Street performers, muscle beach, skate park, weekend market. Very LA.
Griffith Observatory ✅ Strongly yes Free entry, best views of Hollywood sign and city. Planetarium shows from $10. EE excellent at the hilltop.
Santa Monica ✅ Yes End of Route 66 pier, beach, Third Street Promenade shopping, excellent restaurants.
The Getty Center ✅ Strongly yes Free art museum with extraordinary architecture and city views. Tram up the hill. Book parking in advance.
Malibu ✅ For beach days El Matador State Beach is spectacular. Drive PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) for the scenery.
Downtown LA (DTLA) ⚠️ For food and culture only Grand Central Market, The Broad contemporary art museum, Little Tokyo. Not a walkable neighbourhood.

Getting Around LA Without a Car

LA is car culture but increasingly navigable without one:

  • Uber/Lyft: The primary transport mode for non-drivers. Budget $20-50 per trip across the city.
  • Metro Rail: Improving. The E Line (Expo Line) connects DTLA to Santa Monica. B Line connects DTLA to Hollywood, Universal Studios, North Hollywood. Day pass $3.50.
  • Dash buses: Free in downtown and Hollywood areas. Navigate with Google Maps.
  • Lime / Bird scooters: Available citywide. Good for beach areas. $1 + $0.39/minute.

Hollywood Sign Hike

The Hollywood Sign is most impressive from a distance (Griffith Observatory has the best view). But you can hike to the sign itself:

  • Easiest trail: Brush Canyon Trail from Griffith Park. 3.6 miles round trip.
  • No parking directly at trailhead — take Uber to the park entrance.
  • T-Mobile signal excellent throughout the hike. Post from the sign itself.

LA Food Scene Apps

  • Yelp: Still dominant in LA food discovery (more than Google Maps for restaurants)
  • Resy: Book the trendy restaurants that are always sold out
  • Goldbelly: For shipping home the best LA food you discover
  • Taco Bell Cantina app: Not actually useful but this is where tacos were elevated — find local tacos on Yelp instead
