China eSIM vs Home Carrier Roaming: Avoid the Wrong Data Line

Many unexpected roaming charges happen after the traveler has already purchased an eSIM. The cause is not the travel profile itself; the phone silently continues using the home line because the data selection was never changed.

Make the purchase decision from the trip, not the headline

Compare the complete home-carrier terms with the travel product, including validity, high-speed allowance, hotspot, SMS charges and app routing. Then decide which line handles data and which line remains only for calls or messages.

Start with four facts: the exact phone model and purchase country, every destination, the number of travel days, and the apps that must work. Then add expected video, cloud upload and hotspot use. Compatibility comes before data size
