eSIM Shows Signal But No Internet — The One Setting 90% of People Miss

You land. You turn off Airplane Mode. You see signal bars on the eSIM line. You open Google Maps. Nothing loads. You open WhatsApp. Nothing. The bars are there. The eSIM is installed. But the internet does not work.

This is the single most common eSIM support question. And the fix takes 15 seconds — once you know what it is.

Why This Happens — The Exact Technical Reason

When you install an eSIM, your phone adds a second mobile line. But by default, your phone keeps your original home SIM as the active data line. The eSIM connects to the local network and shows signal — but your phone is still trying to send data through your home carrier, which returns an error because you are abroad.

The phone shows bars from the eSIM (it is registered on the network) but routes data through the wrong line (your home SIM). The result: signal with no internet.

There is a second layer. Even when you switch data to the eSIM line, Data Roaming must be enabled on that line specifically. Without it, the eSIM registers on the network but the data channel stays closed.
